Make A Wish ” We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

The first wish was of a little boy who wanted to be a police officer. He was being treated for luekimia. U.S. Customs Officer Tommy Austin had befriended the boy and his mother. The child was sworn in as an honorary DPS member. A store owner and two seamstresses stayed up through the night to make a custom fit uniform for him. He earned wings for his uniform. On May 2, 1980 he was back in the hospital. He asked for his room to be set ina way that he could always see his uniform. The following day he passed away. Two police officers attended the funeral in honor of the boy they are founders of Make A Wish Scott Stahl and Frank Shankwitz . in 1981 they had $2,000 enough to grant another wish. Today, a wish is granted every 40 minutes please visit I think your time on that site would be very worthwhile and they accept volunteers as well.
