Proof Positivity

I’m back and things are getting back to normal for me.  Again, I feel I need to apoligize for the lack of news that’s been happening here due to my illness.  I needed a break.  This site requires a lot of research and I do work on it every morning befor 9:00 AM to give you the most current of what I have.  This means I am constantly watching the news and recieving press releases.  I do interviews on this site as well.  So, if you have a worthwhile story and want to shout it out feel free  to leave a non- spammy Sammy message.

Shopping Means A Lot

RadioShack Corporation, through the support of its customers, raised nearly $1.5 million for the fifth-annual Thanks and Giving campaign, a national awareness and fundraising initiative for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital that ran throughout the holiday season.

Customers who shopped at RadioShack stores had the opportunity to make a donation to benefit St. Jude while paying for their purchases. RadioShack’s company-operated and dealer stores participated in the campaign, which ran from Nov. 10 to Dec. 31, 2008.

“It was our pleasure to participate in the Thanks and Giving campaign,” said Julian Day, chairman and chief executive officer of RadioShack. “Our customers and employees raised a lot of money to help children with life-threatening illnesses, and we applaud this outpouring of generosity.”

“We couldn’t be more pleased with RadioShack’s success in the Thanks and Giving campaign,” said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude. “This was RadioShack’s first year as a St. Jude partner, and it’s a remarkable achievement to raise $1.5 million. On behalf of the patients and families of St. Jude, I offer my heartfelt appreciation for the support that RadioShack employees and customers showed to St. Jude in embracing my father’s dream that no child should die in the dawn of life.”

The annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving national campaign is an unprecedented union of celebrities, media, retail and corporate partners that asks consumers to “Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not.” The Thanks and Giving initiative was created in 2004 by Marlo Thomas and her siblings Terre and Tony Thomas, children of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas. Funds raised by the campaign support the lifesaving work of St. Jude – to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. St. Jude impacts the lives of children in communities across the country.

Saving Lives In Virginia

Since July 2007, VA has operated an around-the-clock suicide-prevention hotline that has received about 100,000 calls and has been credited with rescuing over 2,600 people. The number for VA’s suicide prevention hotline is 1-800-273-TALK.

VA operates the largest mental health program in the country, with special efforts in each of the Department’s 153 medical centers and more than 750 outpatient clinics to identify and treat at-risk patients.

In addition to operating the suicide-prevention hotline, VA has given all medical workers training in suicide prevention, created suicide prevention coordinators at each medical center, and given primary care clinics responsibility for mental health screening.

“We are reaching out to our newest generation of heroes – the Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan – to ensure they are aware of the services available to them,” Shinseki added.

New requests or referrals for mental health appointments receive a preliminary evaluation within 24 hours and a comprehensive evaluation with 14 days. Emergency cases are dealt with immediately.
